Louisiana- Justin

Louisiana Story

My name is Louisiana also known as the pelican state I was born in 1812. / The highest Temperature i ever was is 114 F and the coldest was -16 F. / I get about 57 inches of rain and snowfall a year making me one of the wettest states in the U. S./ The Gulf of Mexico constantly takes away bits and pieces of my shoreline, but the mississippi river adds sediment./ I have many resouces like cotton, rice, sugarcane , soybeans, and shrimp./ Tourists bring millions of dollars to me. especially during festivals./ More than 12,000 Native Americans lived on my land./ The president at the time sold me for $15 million to napoleon of France./ In 1812 the british tried to take me over./ In 1861 I was one of the 11 southern states to withdraw from the union. in the civil war that followed, many battles were fought on my lands. by the time it was over i was a poor broken down state./ Then in 1928, Huey “Kingfish” Long was elected governor. He built bridges, buildings and funds for schools./ But he was assassinated and his “Friends” where jailed for fraud, bribery and other crimes./ There are many cultures that live on my land such as the french, spain, and african-Americans.

I was named after King Louis the Fourteenth. /
My state animal is the catahoula leapard dog.
My state flower is the mangolia.
My state tree is the bald cypress.
My state bird is the Eastern Brown Pelican./

There are many people who live on my land most are white 63.9%, but there are 32.5% of African-Americans, and the other 5.9% is other races.
I have 108 Villages, 127 Towns, and 69 Cities.
Also I have 64 Counties.
